Course co-directors: Ostap Sereda (UCU/BCB) and Balázs Trencsényi (CEU)
This course will be structured around the main political, social and cultural debates in modern Ukrainian history and contemporary public discourse that dealt with the key issues of historical legacy, challenges of modernity and national identity. We will pay special attention to the current repercussions of selected historical debates and to the issues that became the focus of public attention after February 2022, especially colonialism and decolonization in East Central European and Ukrainian contexts. This course will also introduce the main concepts of intellectual history and explore the applicability of the concept of public sphere for the analysis of intellectual and social life in Ukraine.
