The course explores the European Union’s revived enlargement process with a focus on Ukraine’s accession. To welcome new members, the European Union will need to transform its institutions, policies, and capabilities. The heightened security threats will also prompt the European Union to reconsider its geopolitical role and defense strategy. The course delves into current academic and policy discussions, exploring avenues for mutually beneficial reform and collaboration between Ukraine and the European Union. The course provides an overview of valuable lessons from past Eastern enlargement experiences to inform contemporary perspectives.
